Hands-on review: ZVEX Effects Fuzz Probe

Tasty rich Strat replacement pickups. Single coils with rw middle for humbucking in-between sounds. Rich in overtones and very complex sounds. They went straight into my Warmoth Strat and transformed it from a good guitar into a great guitar. They send a slightly hotter signal to my Rivera M60 conbo than the Kent Armstrongs previously fitted. This coupled with a more full and rich sound conspire to produce a rich sound with plenty of treble, not a "dark" sound. My favorite is the in-between bridge and middle - just wonderful. Loads of quack and a real smooth clean sound that has that special vibe. The middle sound nails that Ronnie Earl clean shine and the neck can go into Santana territory if you like it to. Lower (slightly) treble output at the neck is welcome for those jazzier moments - it returns as you turn up the heat and can really create a wide range of stuff from cutting blues lines From Albert to BB King ! Well built (fibreglass bobbins), well packaged and Scott Peterson, head honcho at HD, is a pleasure to deal with.

A looooong wait for the pickups! 12 weeks in all Scott promises no favors for big shots - everybody waits their turn.

Very well built with fibreglass bobbins. They feel more substantial than others. They have a plate on the bottom which provides some extra rigidity. High quality wiring loom and perfect finish complete the build. They are pressure wax potted for squeal resistance (I've never suffered from this, some obviously have).

A quality product from a boutique committed to producing that special sound. Buy these pickups, you will be thrilled.
